A Romantic New York City Engagement Session at Grand Central & the NYPL

There is something about New York City that makes love feel a little more cinematic.

For Rakkie and Jinay, their engagement session took us through some of Manhattan's most iconic spaces, from the timeless architecture of Grand Central Terminal to the marble halls of the New York Public Library. The result was a collection of images that felt both distinctly New York and completely personal to them.
As a New York City engagement photographer, these are the kinds of sessions I love most—where the city becomes part of the story without ever taking the focus away from the couple.

Grand Central Engagement Photos in New York City

Grand Central isn't just a backdrop. It's a metaphor for a love that feels grounded even in the busiest seasons.
There is always something happening inside Grand Central Terminal: people rushing toward trains, conversations happening all around you, footsteps echoing beneath the ceiling, and the constant movement that makes New York feel like New York.
And then there are those quiet moments between two people.
For Rakkie and Jinay, we embraced both sides of the city. The energy and movement became part of the story, while the moments between them stayed intimate and effortless.
I love photographing couples in places like Grand Central because the environment gives the photographs a sense of place. Years from now, they'll be able to look at these images and remember not only how they felt with each other, but where they were and what the city felt like around them.

A New York City Engagement Session With a Sense of Place

One of my favorite things about engagement photography in New York is that your session doesn't have to feel like a traditional photoshoot.
It can feel like a date.
A walk through Manhattan. A favorite neighborhood. Coffee together. A beautiful building you've always loved. A quiet moment tucked away from the crowds.
The best engagement photographs often happen in between the planned moments—the way you reach for each other's hand, the laugh that happens when you're not expecting it, or the way you naturally move closer when you're walking through the city together.
My approach is a blend of gentle direction and photojournalistic observation. I'll guide you when you need it, but I'll also leave room for the moments that can't be planned.

New York Public Library Engagement Photos

From Grand Central, we continued the story at the New York Public Library.
The NYPL has an entirely different atmosphere. Its grand marble architecture, symmetry, and timeless details create a setting that feels almost cinematic.
Among the marble columns and historic beauty of the library, we captured another chapter of Rakkie and Jinay's story—quieter, more intimate, and beautifully connected to the architecture surrounding them.
This contrast is one of the reasons I love New York City engagement sessions. In a single afternoon, your photographs can feel like several different worlds while still telling one cohesive story.

Why I Love Photographing Engagement Sessions in NYC

New York gives couples so many possibilities for creating photographs that feel personal rather than overly staged.
You can choose locations that mean something to your relationship, or simply explore the city together and see where the day takes you.
For couples who love architecture and an editorial feel, places like Grand Central and the New York Public Library offer incredible visual texture. For others, the beauty might be found on a quiet street, in a favorite neighborhood, or during golden hour somewhere overlooking the city.
Whatever the setting, my goal is always the same: to create photographs that feel like you.
Romantic, timeless, emotional, and a little bit imperfect in the best way.

Planning Your Own New York City Engagement Session

If you're considering an engagement session in Manhattan, I recommend choosing locations that reflect who you are as a couple rather than simply choosing the most recognizable places in the city.
Think about:
Places that have meaning to you. Your first date spot, favorite neighborhood, or somewhere you love spending time together can make your photographs much more personal.
The time of day. Light can completely change the feeling of a location, so we'll plan your session around the kind of images you love.
Multiple locations. One of the best things about photographing in NYC is being able to create variety within one session.
Comfort over perfection. You don't have to know how to pose. I'll give you direction while leaving plenty of space for natural interaction.
Your experience together. Your engagement session should feel like something you enjoyed—not something you simply had to get through for the photographs.

Rakkie + Jinay

A love story written in the heart of New York City.
From the movement of Grand Central to the timeless beauty of the NYPL, every part of this engagement session became a little piece of their story.
And that's what I love about photographing couples in New York: the city is always moving, but for a few moments, everything else can fade into the background.
Just the two of you.
If you're dreaming of an engagement session in New York City, I'd love to help you create something that feels beautiful, effortless, and completely yours.
